At Ebenezer, we are committed to being a word-centered ministry that educates, equips, and empowers individuals with biblical teachings and economic principles. We believe in the necessity of worshiping God, embracing each individual, uniting the church, and empowering every believer.

Embrace

Our Story

ESTABLISHED IN THE EARLY 1900s

Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church was founded in the Hayes Chapel School, serving as a vital place of worship for the Black farming community in Big Cove. Initial services took place on the first and third Sundays.

A LEGACY OF GENEROSITY

The late Deacon George Jackson generously donated land, enabling the construction of a sanctuary near Taylor Road.

RELOCATION AND GROWTH

In 1914, the church moved to a new location on Highway 431, about a quarter mile from its original site. For 97 years, this sanctuary served the congregation faithfully.

A NEW BEGINNING IN 1977

In 1997, a new chapter for the church began with the rebuilding of its sanctuary on the same grounds, at which time “Big Cove” was officially added to its name. While the region has evolved from a farming lifestyle to one of new and growing communities, Big Cove Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church has remained a constant source of warmth and love. The congregation is dedicated to its mission of embracing, engaging, equipping, and empowering the community through the application of biblical and economic principles, all to the glory and worship of Jesus.

MEET OUR PASTOR

Jonathan William Hambrick is a servant-leader devoted to sharing practical, life giving messages that strengthen, encourage, and equip God’s people. At the heart of his work is a commitment to meet people where they are—building unity, creating community, and helping individuals grow through the teaching of biblical truth and sound economic principles.

Jonathan has preached since 2002 and was ordained in 2012. He earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Biblical Studies and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry in Biblical Leadership at Huntsville Bible College. He also serves as the founder and vice president of Eat Good On Purpose (EGOP), a nonprofit Culinary Arts Professional Network that supports local food service professionals by increasing community awareness and driving traffic to local businesses.

His passion for service extends beyond the pulpit. Jonathan founded Viola’s House, home to a Community Food Bank and Culinary Arts Program that provides meals, nourishment, and opportunity to individuals and families in need.

Jonathan is married to Laura Hyter-Hambrick and is the proud son of John and Pamela Hambrick. He is a dedicated father to Samuel and Taylor Hambrick. Outside of work and ministry, he enjoys fishing and restoring classic cars.
